Sand Bubbler Crabs, chomping away, bolt to safe places and holes as I pass. Gulls wandering on the low-tide sand, angling for an opportunity, look me up and down, checking for chippies. The afternoon sun, streaming in from low in the west, touching the landscape with its golden evening-glow, warms my soul.Labels: afternoon sun, Florence Reserve, low-tide, Pittwater

I used to play with Neptune's Necklace (or Beads) as a kid, squeezing the little segments of fresh-out-of-the-sea weed, until they squirted salty water in my brother's face. I love how it looks when it dries, and make pictures on the white sand with shrivelled, black pieces of it.Labels: beach, Hormosira banksii, Neptune's Beads, Neptune's Necklace, Pittwater

I used to spend a lot of time here, years ago when a friend had their yacht moored off this beach. Fond memories of paddling a ridiculously overloaded dinghy to and from the yacht, came back to me as I wandered along the beach. It is simply serene, and on this sun-bathed evening, it was nearly all mine, mine, mine.Labels: afternoon sun, beach, boats, Clareville Beach, Pittwater, Sydney, wharf, yachts

Plump, fleshy, green leaves of Pig Face and the spikey, silvery, dryness of Spinifex. I love adaptation to harsh conditions, in all its varied forms.Labels: colonising beach plants, newport beach, pig face, spinifex, spring rain
